More stringent safety standards for industrial buildings and public buildings (hospitals, shopping centres, factory halls, schools, railway stations, airports, hotels) require the application of special plastic in the production of conduits, which will reduce flame spread during fire, release of toxic gases and minimise the emission of fumes.

Identification involves the addition of a suitable mark (HF, LSF, LS, LSOH etc.), e.g.:

  • MMJ HF 450/750 V

or the supplementary mark specifying the use of special mixture (insulation or cover),

  • UK Ref. 624(*)B based on BS 7211 flat

Examples of this group are: NHXMH 300/500 V based on 0250-214 LIHH and LIHCH based on VDE 0245 and 0812.

All of these types are promoted by TF Kable under the brand name of FlameBlocker, which also helps to identify cables as meeting the following standards:

  • IEC 60332, EN 50266, VDE 0482-266 determining the resistance of cables to flame spreading (test on a single sample or cable harness),
  • IEC 61034, EN 61034, VDE 0482-1034 determining emission of fumes during combustion of a cable under certain conditions,
  • IEC 60754, EN 50267, VDE 0482-267 determining emission of corrosive gases during combustion.

All products intended for the European market are classified in accordance with the requirements of the CPR directive.
